The present invention corresponds to a masonry unit of constant cross section, and to the tongue and groove system that is formed, with the arrangement of the units by means of an assembly in which a mechanical lock is created, in such a way that each unit is locked in its position, without being able to turn or move in any direction, and this is achieved without the need to use mortar or any other additional element. In the proposed tongue and groove system, only a single basic unit is required to form the arrangement, which facilitates the construction process. The proposed tongue and groove system can be used in any seismic hazard zone, for the construction of one and two-story buildings, or for the reinforcement of existing structures, or for the erection of dividing walls in buildings of more than two levels. With the proposed arrangement, a better structural performance of the tongue and groove system is achieved since the continuity of the horizontal and/or vertical joints generated in the contact zones of the units is broken.
