Resumen

This article is about identifying barriers and opportunities to develop eco-efficiency with business application in the city of Medellin (Colombia). In this context, there has been developed an investigation under the case-study approach, applied with actors of relationship university - business - state. The results have provided valuable information to guide the development of proposals related to the implementation of strategies, techniques and tools for environmental management, related to the management of pollution from solid waste, gas emissions and discharge of polluted water. One of the recommendations resulting from the investigation is the creation of a committee to prepare a Colombian technical standard that will promote the implementation of eco-efficient processes for the development of products and services businesses through a certification process.
